Selected Works Nos. 1-4

The following works are original compositions using acoustic-electric violin and synth routed through several effects pedals: octave, overdrive, delay, reverb, looping station, and EQ.

They have all been recorded live without overdubbing or punching-in.

this is a personal reference to the band Yo La Tengo. the repeating bass line, form, and gentle plucking as a foundational element was inspired by their song, "I'll Be Around." because of the length of the repeating structure, its various layers build far more slowly than that of the other works, but it remains one of my personal favorites.

following an ABAB form, the A section was originally an idea that came from experimenting with acoustic guitar and electric bass and reminded me of Broken Social Scene, who I had been listening to frequently at the time. it sat around for about a year before it was transferred to violin and synth and attached to a B section. the latter utilizes an orchestral style I find similar to Sufjan Steven's approach in his album Illinoise.

the beginning of each new A or B section requires erasing all the loops from the prior section and building an entirely new loop from scratch as I play.

similar in form to no. 1, but with a shorter repeating structre

a strong reference to sigur ross, this is the simplest work of this group, having a structure like no.3 and entirely diatonic harmonic movement
